Includes a hard case.
Dr. Edwin Land established Polaroid Corporation in 1937, and the first pair of sunglasses went over the counter towards the end of that decade. A trusted global brand for over 70 years, Polaroid is best known for pioneering instant photography. Today, Polaroid has reinvented instant photography for the digital age and is a world leader in consumer electronics and production of eyewear products. It's eyewear brand portfolio also includes Disney, Revlon and Hello Kitty.
Frame Technology
Polaroid frames are manufactured from a variety of high quality materials to ensure lasting comfort and great performance. This ranges from the metal framed aviator look to cutting edge plastic designs. Their distinctive styles will suit everyone from the trend-savvy fashion conscious, determined to get the latest catwalk looks and colours, to the careful consumer who demands classic styles and proven quality.
Lens Technology
At Polaroid they have invested in the development of the best lenses on the market. UltraSightâ„¢ lenses, exclusively developed for Polaroid® polarized sunglasses, are made of nine functional elements. The core element of the lens construction is the polarizing light filter in the centre. UV light absorbers are bonded to both sides of the filter. These block all harmful UVA, UVB, and UVC light rays. Shock absorbing layers are then fused to both sides of the UV absorbers, making the lens light, flexible and impact resistant. A scratch-resistant layer on both the outer surfaces completes the lens structure.
Inside every UltraSightâ„¢ lens
It's the process that makes them different.
Thermofusion™ Technology is a step forward in optical manufacturing. It starts with convex and concave molds that are smooth, hard and made from an alloy with high levels of thermal conductivity. Precisely designed, these molds ensure that the lenses are optically correct – thicker at the centre and tapered toward the edges. By carefully controlling the temperature and protecting the polarizer with additional lens layers, the heat and pressure used in the process preserves lens efficiency. Their technology is also flexible enough to create lenses with widely different curvatures and the same careful optical fine-tuning.
Step 1: Lens is placed between the highly polished concave and convex mouldsStep 2: Heat and pressure are applied, precisely curving the lens for optical clarityStep 3: The lens curve is set during the cooling cycle
Using Thermofusion™ Technology gives Polaroid Eyewear the advantage in producing lenses with exceptional polarizing efficiency and optical accuracy. Their process has been meticulously developed and designed to control the temperatures used to form the separate elements of the lens together. The polarizing filter is at the centre of the lens – where it's fully protected from the heat. The result is a lens that preserves the integrity of the polarizing filter and gives wearers complete protection from glare.
UltraSightâ„¢ lenses meet all international standards:
In fact, these lenses also comply with Europe Class 1 Optics Standards, providing superior optical performance and clarity of vision.
Protection across the spectrum
Polaroid is committed to protecting people from the avoidable danger of UV eye damage. They provide sunglasses with the highest UV protection, in line with research that concludes 400 nm covers the whole cancer-causing spectrum. UltraSightâ„¢ lenses support good eye health. From preventing cataracts to protecting the eyelid from skin cancer, their sunglasses limit the risks of UV exposure.
Impact resistance and shock absorbency
At Polaroid Eyewear, their goal is to create sunglasses that are not only comfortable and stylish, but also right for different conditions. UltraSight™ lenses are strong - very strong – and that makes them safe. They exceed the requirements of all international safety standards, including European sunglass tests, as well as Australian, Chinese and American safety standards.
As a partner of BFU Switzerland, the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention, Polaroid Eyewear are committed to continued safety improvements through research, high targets and accident prevention measures. All key factors in the development of this new lens.
High speed impact – absorbed by the lens
UltraSightâ„¢ lenses satisfy high velocity impact tests. These lenses can absorb the energy generated from the impact of a steel ball travelling at a speed of 100mph. That's because of the unique lens composition. In impact situations, every layer fused within the lens disperses energy. That makes UltraSightâ„¢ incredibly shock-absorbent.
Light, strong and safe
UltraSightâ„¢ can take a few knocks too. This impact resistant lens out-performs even thicker and heavier lenses usually associated with safety.

Prescription lenses are made to very high standards with low tolerance for errors and are rigorously checked at all stages of production. Any error in the prescription across the lens, deficiencies in the coating or blemishes that cannot be removed means the lens would need to go back in production and re-made. All prescription lenses are also rigorously checked at Eyekit before dispatch and any errors will mean that the lenses as sent back to the glazer for replacing. We have a zero tolerance for errors to ensure our customers receive prescription eyewear to the highest standards and we will not compromise on these standards even if it means delivering eyewear later than expected.
