Julbo Sunglasses and Goggles
Specialists in optical protection in risk environments, Julbo became part of mountaineering history by proposing the first glasses to be used on glaciers. Since then Julbo has been working with highly demanding sports men and women to develop lenses that are perfectly suited to each type of use. These include collaboration with Team Julbo athletes (Enak Gavaggio, Franck Cammas, etc.) and professionals from the Ecole Nationale de Ski et d' Alpinisme (ENSA, the French National School of Skiing and Mountaineering) and the Ecole Nationale de Voile (ENV– the National Sailing School), technical advisers for the development and refinement of the products. With such collaborative assistance, Julbo generates innovations each year, developing new frame concepts to meet new sporting requirements.
An independent family-run firm, Julbo was founded in 1888 by Jules Baud. Since then they have emerged as a manufacturer of multi-sport eyewear for elite outdoor athletes as well as mainstream users, they are also an acknowledged leader in children's sunglasses - eyewear that incorporates world-renowned optical quality with a new, bold sense of style. Today Julbo can be found all over the world; from the mountains, to the sea, to the dessert and even in the high street!
Julbo Goggles and Sunglasses
Frame Technology
Julbo sunglasses are more than lenses; each model is equipped to intensify protection, stay on in all conditions and ensure absolute comfort and functionality.
Specific features are tailored for each outdoor activity. With the shape of the frames, noses, temples, grips and ventilation, Julbo pushes back the limits of the performance levels of its glasses. Look at the Key Features symbols on the product pages of the eyekit web sit for a list of benefits associated with your selection.
Lens Technology
Julbo lenses offer 100% protection against UVs: UVAs, UVBs, and UVCs. Classed as OPTICAL CLASS 1, their quality is guaranteed by international standards. All Julbo eyewear meets European, American and Australian standards, guaranteeing visual reliability and safety.
Julbo Mineral Lenses
Alti Arc Category 4 mineral lens with anti-reflective and flash finish
Julbo's glass lens, with their superior optical quality and highly resistance to scratches and bumps, are ideal for the desert and high altitudes. The Altitude Arc lens is the name for glacier goggles. The various lens treatments allow them to eliminate parasite reflections and reinforce filtering. These include:
- Anti-reflective coating: improves visual comfort by eliminating stray reflections.
- Mirror finish: improves visible light filtering with mirror effect lenses. It reflects rays of light and increases the filter effect. It eliminates the radiation reflected by the outer mirrored surface of the lens.
Julbo Polycarbonate Lenses
Julbo call these lenses their SPECTRON range which is available in 5 sun protection categories. These are highlighted by the icons in the Key Benefits area of the product pages of the eyekit web site. The organic polycarbonate lenses provide high shock resistance are very light and have good optical quality.
One of the SPECTRON lenses incorporates polarizing technology. In 1998, Julbo was the first brand to launch POLARIZED polycarbonate lenses. This technology rapidly became the standard for the watersports environment. Julbo POLARIZED lenses are created by overmoulding two pieces of polycarbonate lens onto a polarising film. The polarising filter molecules are orientated to suppress light reflection. Julbo POLARIZED lenses eliminate dazzle, they significantly increase visual sharpness (better definition of shapes and colours), and eliminate discomfort and tiredness.
Julbo NXT Lenses
Julbo's regular NXT lenses in standard thickness meet the impact requirement defined by the NSI Z87.1 standard for industrial application. See our information section on'Which lens material should I use' to learn about the properties of NXT materials compared to others.
